Really Decent travels #1 – Frankfurt Book Fair 2012

It was our first Frankfurt Book Fair last October after launching in April 2012 – very exciting for us as it’s the largest international book fair attracting thousands of publishers who come and visit to buy and sell book rights, see what is new with other publishers, and meet friends old and new. Armed with our samples and a small but perfectly formed stand (thanks to the IPG, who were wonderful!), we were there for four days to meet with customers who publish our titles in their own languages.

With 40 meetings arranged (and a feature in the Bookseller Fair edition), we really enjoyed meeting our new publishing partners from around the world (as well as bumping into lots of familiar faces)! For our first Fair, we were very happy to sign deals to translate our first titles into portugese, afrikaans, italian and hebrew!

The book fair can be a tiring affair so we made sure we tried some traditional German fare – the highlight being a big plate of pork schnitzel with cabbage and potatoes to keep the cold away!

With Bologna fast approaching we are looking forward to renewing old friendships and making some new ones. More to follow from our lovely base in the heart of the old town…
